Game Concept: Towards the Sun is 2D pixel art platformer game where players need to help main character Hinata to overcome his fears. Players need to avoid touching enemies in order not to lose protective light. The only way to kill enemies is to trick and drag them to collectible light. Collecting more light will give an upper hand when fighting the boss enemy.

The game can be played on Windows 10 operating system.

Genre: 2D action platformer

Target Audience: The game is mainly targeting people who like 2D platformer games, the game doesn’t have an age restriction.

Game Flow Summary: Towards the Sun is a 2D platformer game where the main character Hinata was  traumatized in his past experience, the players help Hinata overcome his fears by collecting light to keep enemies away from themselves and proceed to the end of the level where a boss fight is held to overcome Hinata’s fear. Players start the game with a small cutscene that shows Hinata’s fear and then the gameplay starts.

Look and Feel: The game has 2D pixel art graphics. While the overall feeling is dark, there are different colored areas reflecting different emotions from Hinata’s subconscious. Some of them have different effects. E.g. gravity is lower in blue area and players can float in the sky. The level represents the state of Hinata’s mind, somewhere in between his subconscious and dream state.

4.1. Gameplay

Game Progression

Mission/challenge structure: The mission/objective of the player is to proceed through the level, facing small enemies that represent the fear that character has. After the player gets to the ending of the level, a boss enemy symbolizes the source of the fear appears.  The boss enemy starts chasing Hinata to a close end. During this chase, players need to jump through platforms. After they get to the closed end, showing that it’s time to stop running and start fighting our fears. The fight starts.

The light that the player collected throughout the way will help him see the monster in that darkness. Players will be trying to defeat the enemy by using their pillow, hitting the enemy once it spawns. If the player waits too much, the enemy moves first, dashes and gives damage to the player.

Objectives: The objective of the players is to make their way to the end of the level then face the source of their fear and beat it. Players need to collect and maintain light to stay alive.
